I wanted to have this feature up for July 4th, but I just got so busy that I didn’t have time for it, but learning about or re-learning about the “Revolutionary War” is not limited to Independence Day.

This iPhone/iPad/iTouch compatible app is $4.99 on the iTunes store, and contains a whole lot of facts and interesting events that led up to and occurred during the American Revolution.

Robot Tycoon iPad App

Posted by on May 16, 2011 in Educational, Gadgets, iPad Apps | 1 comment

Robot Tycoon ($4.99) – from Danta Entertainment allows you to build and manage your own robot factory.  Keep your customers happy by building them the robots they order and profit to grow your business to add employees and a custom robot factory.  Customers want the robots they order to be completed correctly, so look at the schematics carefully and if you build them successfully you can be a Robot Tycoon.

Robot Tycoon is a title that is appropriate for all ages.  It quickly grabs the player’s interest.  It’s a bit of a fun and strategic puzzle game for older ages, and for the younger crowd it’s educational as they have to match and remember the three piece schematic.

It really is just like running your own personal company.  Robot Tycoon uses similar techniques that a employer would need to use in an everyday environment and managing a work force as well as keeping customers satisfied.

I had fun playing this game, it was easy enough to pick up the concept right away, but not boring that I lost interest in it.

A couple of higher learning institutions like Harvard and Northwestern actually use this for their business students to have a better understanding of what managing and growth strategies are needed when running a company.

For more information about Robot Tycoon and Danta Entertainment visit their website at http://www.robottycoon.com.

This post was written for Danta Entertainment who provided the complimentary product for review in exchange for my honest opinions.

New Knowledge Adventure Apps

Posted by on Apr 28, 2011 in Educational, Educational, iPad Apps, Smart Phone Apps | 5 comments

Knowledge Adventure the company that produces JumpStart and MathBlaster educational software has two new iPhone/iPad apps on the market.

JumpStart Preschool iPad App, teaches basic skills in different games to help your child learn. 21 skill-building games that make learning fun!  A great mix of entertainment and learning.    From re-telling a story to matching pictures, your child will have a choice of 3 games within the 7 skill sets.

Everything is auditory so the child can follow along on their own without much help.  They choose a lesson by scrolling through the top hats and tapping a card.

They can play the games again and again even if they have received a gold star for them.

JumpStart has priced this app at just $1.99, so even though the games are pretty rudimentary and your child might go through them in one afternoon, it’s a sweet deal!

MathBlaster: HyperBlast will help your kids retain their math facts over summer!  They might even advance to some new math skills while playing.  This iPhone/iTouch/iPad app allows kids to hop on a HyperCycle and outsmart alien robots, blast through razor sharp blockades all the while solving math equations.

Our tester had a great time playing the game, she didn’t even care that it was educational! She’s 8 years old and in 2nd grade.

There are multiple levels and the games I think are appropriate for 1st to 7th graders.

I even had a good time playing!

In the interest of the review (cough, cough) I tried it out and I was instantly struck by how the math equations are programmed in to be a natural part of the game and not ‘school’ like at all.  If you know you’ll be spending time in the car this summer, MathBlaster HyperBlast is worth picking up for your iPhone/iTouch/iPad.  If your kids like playing computer games, and you like it when they play educational games – it’s a win/win app.  MathBlaster HyperBlast costs $1.99 to download.

Disclosure: I was provided with codes good for HyperBlast and JumpStart Preschool to download the apps at no cost by Knowledge Adventure in order to review them and give my opinions on them. The opinions I have given are mine and may differ from others but were not influenced by the free product.
