Inception

Written by my friend Roosevelt Spence

Can’t say I’m much of a movie goer, but I do love to watch movies on demand through www.direct.tv TV. The latest movie I happened to see also happens to have become an instant favorite of mine. “Inception,” starring Leonardo DiCaprio, the Japanese guy from “Last Samurai,” the chick from “Juno,” and the quirky kid from that television sitcom where aliens living among us starring Jon Lithgow. “Inception” is very “Matrix”-like with it’s world within a world concept. Except instead of having a guy who can magically do things that shouldn’t be possible given the nature of the world’s programming, we have trained professionals who use a variety of tactics in order to manipulate people’s dreams to get information they can use in the real world. The set up has DiCaprio’s character and his team of dream manipulators hired by a corporate mogul who wants to dismantle a rival company by having the heir to that company believe that his father’s dying wish was to have that company broken up into smaller parts. This presents something of a problem considering that dream manipulation is primarily used for extracting information and not for implanting ideas. For reasons unknown, DiCaprio’s character seems assured that the ability to implant ideas is possible and begins forming a team to carry out the mission. I don’t want to give anything more away so I’ll end it on that note.
