3 Reasons to Watch Human Planet on Blu-ray DVD

1. The Cinematography – This series is exceptional already in the way the filmmakers captured the beauty of the Earth we live on, but you will want to “Own it on Blu-ray” because it is simply magnificent viewing the HD quality of the show.

2. It Will Change Your Worldview – Nothing will make you feel tiny in your geographic location quicker than watching this series.  The sheer immersion that it gives you into other cultures and landscapes is as close as you are going to get to experiencing it yourself.  Your entire view of this planet and the way we as humans interact with it will be altered.  Human Planet shows people living with the planet in a way we just don’t.  You see the humanity in them, you feel their humanity, and your perspective shifts.

3. It Will Make You Realize Humans are Patient, Strong and Innovative – And that includes you and me.  Watching fishermen in the Philippines diving to catch fish using diesel powered air compressors and garden hoses to stay underwater will make you shiver. A group of women lead a caravan of camels across the desert to find water (with no modern day GPS equipment), using just the sand dunes and stars to guide them to small remote well.  I am in awe of these people.

John Hurt narrates this illuminating documentary, although peppered within are sub-titles when native dialects are spoken.

Human Planet a BBC/Discovery Channel co-production is available now on DVD and Blu-ray (April 26 Release Date) in stores and online.  It includes all 8 episodes from the original UK broadcast version, as well as the episode, Cities, which is exclusive to the DVD and Blu-ray.  Additionally the DVD sets take viewers deeper in the heart of Human Planet with its set of ten Behind the Lens “making of” bonus features, and exclusive to Blu-ray a further “making of” feature called Zanskar, accessible via BD-Live.  You can also check out the official site www.HumanPlanetBlog.com.

I expected something wholly different than what I watched on the Human Planet Blu-ray DVDs.  I thought I would be watching a pretty documentary with an evolutionary agenda base.  Rather I was entranced by these amazing stories of people, not so different than me, using their skills and wits to survive in places that those of us watching in our homes could just not imagine being in.

The filmography of this series is burned upon not just your eyes, but your mind and heart, proving that the planet and the people on it are vast and different – yet despite that so similar, as we all have the same needs no matter who we are or where we live.

I can’t say this feeling will be with me all the time, but when I’m grinding through my day ticked off because my remote control won’t work, I hope to bring myself back, watch Human Planet and locate that humanity once again.

**I received a Blu-ray DVD set of the show to review. I received no financial compensation. All opinions are my own.**
